The Schoeps W 5 is particularly suitable as a windscreen for omni pattern microphones when higher efficiency is required. It can also be used as a low-cost pop screen.

With pressure-gradient transducers it can be used in light wind only, but the W 5 offers the advantage that its influence on sound and polar pattern is minimal, especially at low frequencies.
