| The
Chandler TG1 Abbey Road Edition is a recreation of the rare and
classic limiter/compressor in custom EMI/Abbey Road recording and
mastering consoles used on the Beatles 'Let It Be' and
and Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon'. The Chandler
TG-1 provides a cohesive & powerful richness to tracks; call
to arrange a demo. Requires PSU-1 external power supply. |
The Chandler
TG1 Abbey Road/EMI special edition limiter compressor features an all
discrete circuit with two channels of transformer balanced inputs and
outputs. The limiting element is a rarely seen diode network that produces
smooth, euphonic distortion. The Chandler TG-1 has been compared to a
hard-driven Fairchild 670: very audible and squishy-sounding while maintaining
clarity. The TG1 is now part of the EMI/ Abbey Road Special series and
now has additional cool graphics.
The Chandler
TG1 limiters has 'THD' switches so you can run your signal through the
transformers without going through the compressor/limiter section, useful
if you just want some tranny character without any additional level enhancement.
Chandler calls their TG1 limiter the THD machine. Who are we to disagree?
Sonics:
The Chandler TG1 can produce anything from a
smooth vintage warmth to total psychedelic limiting
simply by varying the gain. Boosting an e.q.
in the side-chain input makes the TG1 clamp
down hard and produce cool pumping sounds. 5k
on a vocal and 5k and 50hz on a drum room mic
will give a lovely Beatles Sgt. Pepper flashback.
Compressor/Limiter- The limiter produces a classic
pumping/breathing sound, and the compressor
is less drastic, though with a sound all its
own.
Hold- This control functions as input gain/threshold
(like an 1176).
Recovery- Limit Mode 0.05, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 1,
& 2 seconds
Compress mode 0.25, 0.5, 1.20, 2.5, 5, &
10 seconds
Attack- Limit Mode 8ms charging time
Compress Mode 47ms charging time
Output/Gain make up- A 21 position switch (1db
steps) allowing +/-10dB of output

ordering options
1. The Chandler TG1 can be ordered (or retrofitted) with 21 position
audio taper switch input controls in place of continously variable pots.
This is basically for repeatability of input settings. Using gold contact
Elma switches and 1% metal film resistors, this option offers the ultimate
in sound, control, resolution, and recallability. Cost is $200.
2. The Chandler TG1 recovery (release) times can be expanded
to 11 positions offering five additional settings that are in between
the 6 standard settings. With the new switch, the limit time constants
become 50, 75, 100, 175, 250, 375, 500, 750ms, 1, 1.5, and 2 seconds.
The compress time constants become 250, 375, 500, 850ms, 1.2, 1.75,
2.5, 3.75 5, 7.5, and 10 seconds. This option uses highest quality Elma
gold contact switches and 1% metal film resistors. Cost is $175.
3. With 250 ms as the fastest release on the compressor section,
Chandler there have been some requests for halving the release times
for mix buss applications. There is no charge for ordering this option
and Chandler will upgrade an existing TG1 for only the cost of shipping.
